A Day in Phan Rang: Market, Kitchen, Coast

Most visitors pass through Phan Rang on their way to somewhere else — a stop between Da Lat and the coast, a name on a map they can’t quite pronounce. But spend one full day here, the way locals do, and Phan Rang stops being a stopover. It becomes a story: one that starts at a market stall, continues over a hot pan, and ends with your feet in the sand.

Here’s what that day can look like.

Morning: Your Day, Your Way

Before you even step into the kitchen, you get to choose how your morning starts.

Option 1 — Market + Kitchen: Join us for a walk through Phan Rang Market before class. Two packed floors, fish still glistening from the morning catch, herbs bought in small handfuls because they’re only good fresh. This is where Vietnamese cooking actually begins — not in the kitchen, but in the hands that choose the ingredients. (A small additional fee applies for the market visit — contact us for details.)

Option 2 — Straight to Cooking: Short on time, or just want to get your hands into the food faster? Skip the market and head straight into the hands-on class.

Either way, here’s what’s waiting for you next.

Midday: Into the Kitchen

By late morning, you’re at our homestay-farm kitchen for a hands-on cooking class — 2 to 3 hours, guided by a bilingual local instructor.

We don’t call them chefs. At Ngon, they’re home cooks, mothers, and everyday food heroes who learned to cook the way most Vietnamese people do: not from a recipe book, but by taste, memory, and watching someone else’s hands. That’s why no two kitchens make the same dish quite the same way — and why cooking here feels less like a lesson and more like being let into someone’s family kitchen.

If you chose the market option, you’ll recognize some of what’s on your cutting board — the herbs you picked out yourself, now finding their place in the dish. Depending on the class, you might crack the batter for a crispy Bánh Xèo, learn the layered broth of a proper Phở, or build a full traditional meal the way it’s done at home.

By the time you sit down to eat what you made, you’ll understand something most tourist menus never explain: why the same dish tastes different from one Vietnamese home to the next.

Afternoon: Five Minutes to the Coast

Here’s the part most guests don’t expect: Ninh Chu Beach is just 5 minutes by motorbike from our kitchen. No planning required — you finish your meal, hop on a bike, and you’re at the water.

Ninh Chu is a long, crescent-shaped stretch of calm water and quiet sand — not built for crowds, built for sitting still. Find a spot under the trees lining the shore, or walk the promenade as the light turns gold in the late afternoon. If you’re still hungry (unlikely, but possible), seafood stalls along the beach serve some of the freshest catch in the province.

It’s not part of the class — just a suggestion from us, born from knowing exactly how close it is.

Practical Notes

  • Two ways to start: Market + Kitchen (small add-on fee, contact us for pricing) or Kitchen only
  • Cooking class: 2–3 hours, homestay/farm, bilingual instructor — morning and afternoon sessions available
  • After class: Ninh Chu Beach — 5 minutes by motorbike from our kitchen
  • Good to know: Classes run in small groups — book a day ahead if you can
